Internet counselling, using Skype or MSN or AOL, with a web-cam, is a quick, efficient way to find and access a counsellor / coach / therapist.  UK, USA and Canada clients are most keen on this medium.

This service is currently unavailable, due to technical/connectivity problems... Please take a look at the Telephone Counselling page instead...

COMPUTER AIDED VOICE AND/OR VISUAL COUNSELLING SERVICE

Hello and welcome. Now it is possible to have a virtual ‘face-to-face’ meeting with Jim Byrne, over the internet, using a web-cam and voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP). The voice-over function is available via Windows Live Messenger, or AOL’s AIM, or via Skype.com, and can be accessed by anybody who has a Net Passport, and the normal, free Windows Live Messenger software; free Skype software; or similar.

You will also need a microphone and (preferably) headphones plugged into your computer.

According to the International Society for Mental Health Online, the advantages of ‘online counselling’ include:

“1. You may feel freer to be yourself online.

2. You may feel more comfortable receiving coaching, counselling or therapy in the privacy of your home.

8. You can contact your coach/counsellor by telephone, thus maximizing ease of communication, but you do not have to present yourself in their office, or "look them in the eye", which can be an advantage with problems that invoke a sense of embarrassment.

9. There are more coaches/therapists to choose from online. And it is also possible to see them "face-to-face" by using video conferencing if you have a web camera.

10. You can email your coach/therapist any time of day, and especially when you feel the need for help.

12. While you can see your coach/counsellor over a webcam, you do not need to be concerned that you will bump into them on the streets of your hometown tomorrow! So there is greater anonymity.”

(For a list of some of the disadvantages of this form of counselling delivery, see the ISMHO guidelines, here:
ISMHO guidelines).

To add visual contact, all you need is a web-camera, connected to your computer. The cost of web cameras (or web-cams) is falling sharply, and one can be bought online from a number of suppliers. (See in particular Logitech.com).

If you would like to consult Jim Byrne, for coaching, counselling or therapy services, using video and/or voice contact, then thirty minutes of online video and/or audio coaching/counselling costs $50.00 USD.  (To convert this to any other currency, please check here:
Thirty minutes of computer-aided counselling by visual or voice contact.)
