Introduction

Jim-in-Harrogate-2.jpgHello and welcome to my Face-to-face counselling page for people who live within commuting distance of central Manchester.

Do you feel unhappy with any aspect of your life?  Are you feeling emotionally miserable, or acting in ways that damage your own interests?  Do you feel an urgent and desperate need for help with your problems?

♣  Are you looking for help with feelings, actions or with relationship problems?

♣  Do you feel angry, anxious or depressed? Are you struggling with strong feelings of too much stress?

♣  Are you feeling miserable about the problems in your life?

If you have any of these kinds of problems, then I can help you.

What is counselling about? "Counselling represents a unique and invaluable form of support with respect to life in complex societies, through making available a relationship which offers a blame-free safe space for reflection on problems in living, and the development of solutions..."

John McLeod, Counseling Skill, Page 223.

Who am I, and what do I offer?

midland-hotel-manchester.jpgMy name is Dr Jim Byrne.  I am a Doctor of Counselling. Over the past thirteen years, I have helped more than 650 people to get over their problems of anger, anxiety, rage, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and/or relationship problems, including couple conflict. My clients find that they can get over their urgent and immediate problems in just three or four sessions with me. Of course, more serious problems may take longer. (See the 'Unsolicited Client Testimonials' page***).

I offer face-to-face counselling, coaching and therapy services in central Manchester on a monthly basis. If you wish to consult me, we can arrange to meet in a private room at the Midland Hotel, on the third Tuesday of each month for a face to face consultation.  In between monthly sessions, we could meet over the telephone for supplementary conversational consultations.

Because I am only in Manchester once each month, and because of the high overhead costs, it is necessary to book a double session - which is two times 45 minute sessions, at £120 per session.  Thus the total cost to you would be £240 per month.  This fee must be paid into the ABC bank account and cleared seven days before the appointment is due to take place.

I am a fully trained and accredited cognitive-emotive-narrative therapist (REBT/CBT/CENT). (See the 'Accreditation and Ethics' page***).

~~~
I offer general counselling help with emotional, behavioural and relationship difficulties; and also in seven areas of specialism***.
I provide a unique form of ‘talk therapy', or cognitive counselling (including elements of CBT), which combines the best systems of effective thinking, re-deciding, re-parenting, psychological education, coaching, social skills training, and emotional support.  This system is called Cognitive Emotive Narrative Therapy, or CENT counselling.
What is the structure of a counselling session?
A standard counselling/therapy session in Manchester is a 90 minute conversation, which is confidential between us. (I would never breach my pledge of confidentiality, unless a client told me they planned to commit a serious crime, and that has never happened in more than thirteen years of doing this work). During my counselling sessions, through a process of discussion, debate and direct teaching/ training/ coaching, I use Cognitive Emotive Narrative Therapy (CENT) to help my clients to feel better; to act better; to think better; and to function better in their home and work relationships and performances.
What will you get?
If you come to see me at the Midland Hotel, I will help you to reframe your problems - to look at them and think about them differently - so that they look and feel more manageable, easier to solve; and less distressing or difficult.
couple6.jpgI will introduce you to new ways of thinking/feeling about your unresolved problems in life, including early childhood problems, or problems from later stages in your life, including present time problems; and I will help you to feel better about who you are, and how you behave and perform in the world.
If you sign up for CENT counselling with me, you can expect to learn how to think better; feel better and perform and behave better, at home and at work.
If you are angry, anxious or depressed, you can expect to reduce the intensity of those emotions to a more reasonable level; which will improve how you feel; how you act; and the general quality of your life.  Happiness can return to your life.
If you are struggling with practical problems in your life, you can expect to gain the skills to plan and implement your goals more effectively.
Fees
Because I am only in Manchester once each month, and because of the high overhead costs, it is necessary to book a double session - which is two times 45 minute sessions, at £120 per session.  Thus the total cost to you would be £240 per month.  This fee must be paid into the ABC bank account and cleared seven days before the appointment is due to take place.  You can reduce the average cost of our sessions together by taking a couple of telephone counselling sessions per month, between face to face sessions.  Telephone counselling is currently priced very modestly.
Alternatively, you could consult me face to face in Hebden Bridge or Halifax, at a lower cost.
"If you think counselling is expensive, try self-neglect!" Anonymous.
