Defining counselling: "Because counseling is an intimate form of learning, it demands
a practitioner who is willing to shed stereotyped roles and be a real person in a relationship. It is precisely within
the context of such a person-to-person relationship that the client experiences growth".
Gerald
Corey, Theory and Practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy, page 15.

Who
am I, and what do I offer?
My name is Dr Jim Byrne. I am a Doctor of Counselling. Over the past thirteen years, I have helped more than 650 people to
get over their problems of anger, anxiety, rage, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and/or relationship problems, including
couple conflict. My clients find that they can get over their urgent and immediate problems in just three or four sessions
with me. Of course, more serious problems may take longer. (See the 'Unsolicited Client Testimonials' page***).
I offer face-to-face counselling, coaching and therapy services in central Wilmslow on a monthly basis.
If you wish to consult me, we can arrange to meet in a private room at the Stanneylands Hotel, on the third Thursday
of each month for a face to face consultation. In between monthly sessions, we could meet over the telephone for supplementary conversational consultations.
Because I am only in Wilmslow once each month, and
because of the high overhead costs, it is necessary to book a double session - which is two times
45 minute sessions, at £150 per session. Thus the total cost to you would be £300 per month. This
fee must be paid into the ABC bank account and cleared seven days before the appointment is due to take place.
I offer general counselling help with emotional, behavioural
and relationship difficulties; and also in seven areas of specialism***.
I provide a unique form of ‘talk therapy', or cognitive counselling (including elements of CBT), which
combines the best systems of effective thinking, re-deciding, re-parenting, psychological education, coaching, social skills
training, and emotional support. This system is called Cognitive Emotive Narrative Therapy, or CENT counselling.
What is the structure of a counselling session?
A standard counselling/therapy session in Wilmslow is a 90 minute conversation, which is confidential between us. (I would
never breach my pledge of confidentiality, unless a client told me they planned to commit a serious crime, and that has never
happened in more than thirteen years of doing this work). During my counselling sessions, through a process of discussion,
debate and direct teaching/ training/ coaching, I use Cognitive Emotive Narrative Therapy (CENT) to help my clients to feel
better; to act better; to think better; and to function better in their home and work relationships and performances.

What
will you get?
If you come to see me at the Stanneylands Hotel, I will help you to reframe your problems - to
look at them and think about them differently - so that they look and feel more manageable, easier to solve; and less distressing
or difficult. I will also introduce you to new things you can do to solve your problems.
I will introduce you to new ways of thinking/feeling about your unresolved problems in life, including early childhood problems,
or problems from later stages in your life, including present time problems; and I will help you to feel better about who
you are, and how you behave and perform in the world.
If you sign up for CENT counselling with me, you
can expect to learn how to think better; feel better and perform and behave better, at home and at work.
If you are
angry, anxious or depressed, you can expect to reduce the intensity of those emotions to a more reasonable level; which will
improve how you feel; how you act; and the general quality of your life. Happiness can return to your life.
~~~
If you are struggling with conflict or disturbances in your relationships, you can expect to learn how to manage effective
relationships for productive outcomes.
If you are struggling with practical problems in your life, you can expect to
gain the skills to plan and implement your goals more effectively.
Fees
Because I am only in
Wilmslow once each month, and because of the high overhead costs, it is necessary to book a double
session - which is two times 45 minute sessions, at £150 per session. Thus the total cost to you would be £300
per month. This fee must be paid into the ABC bank account and cleared seven days before the appointment is due to take
place.
If, in addition, you sign up for a couple of telephone counselling sessions, you will reduce your average session
cost very significantly, as telephone counselling is not very expensive.
